Denver park transforms into glowing landscape

Bright Nights is a collaboration with the largest producer of Chinese lantern festivals in North America.

DENVER — An installation of glowing lanterns is back at Denver's Four Mile Historic Park.

The park's Bright Nights experience features a glowing landscape that immerses visitors with larger-than-life lantern installations.

Installations include a mythical dragon that blows smoke, Colorado wildlife and flowers, a crystal forest with unicorns, and creatures from Chinese mythology.

"These are all new installations; nothing is repeated from last year," said Four Mile CEO Jennifer LaGraff. "The lanterns must be seen to be believed — it’s a stunning display of artistry, especially in the interactive area. We’ve increased that section, and it’s everything you can play with or touch: swings, seesaws, drums, musical instruments."

"And no one should miss the Colorado wildlife section. Picture giant bears, large columbine flowers, there’s even a rattlesnake."

Proceeds from the installation go to help pay for animal care at the Four Mile Historic Park, as well as maintain the historic museum, the oldest standing structure in Denver.

The Bright Nights series opens at 7 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday and will be open until Sept. 29.
