Boulder's Tube to Work Day happening Friday

Boulder's quirky annual tradition is happening Friday after being delayed a week due to high water levels on the creek.

BOULDER, Colo. — Every year, hundreds of people in business casual attire jump into the freezing cold water of Boulder Creek and make their way to work via tube.

This year, the quirky and very-Boulder tradition was delayed by a week because of the unusually high water.

The event will now take place on Friday, July 19 (it was originally scheduled for Friday, July 12).

Those who want to participate are encouraged to pre-register on the Tube to Work Day website.

It's free, but a helmet and close-toed shoes are mandatory. Life jackets and wetsuits are strongly encouraged. Anyone joining in is also required to sign a waiver.

In previous years, organizers have estimated there have been about 1,000 participants.

On July 19, tubers can put in at Eben G. Fine Park at 8 a.m.

Live music, free breakfast and hot coffee will be available at the end of the route at Central Park (just after the Broadway bridge). Awards go to the best costume and the best tube.
