DENVER — Artists and art lovers alike, mark your calendars. Sept. 3 marks a citywide art scavenger hunt, and everyone's invited.

Tuesday, Sept. 3 is World Art Drop Day, and Denver Arts & Venues is calling on local artists, businesses and community members to participate.

The annual celebration originated in Utah when artist Jake Parker decided to connect random strangers through the act of creating and giving.

You don't need to be a professional artist to participate, DAV said. You don't even have to know a thing about art.

Artists, businesses and individuals can commit to participate by filling out the online form. Then, they can create or buy a small, inexpensive piece of art to share on Art Drop Day.

On Sep. 3, everyone with a piece of art to share will hide it around Denver. The DAV asks that participants drop hints and clues on social media using #ArtDropDay and #ArtDropDenver2024 so people can find their creations.

Then, everyone who's contributed a piece of art in the drop can watch and wait for someone to find their hidden creation.

“It’s been fun watching Denver’s participation in Art Drop Day grow since we started promoting the activity in 2015,” Brooke Dilling, director of grants and cultural programs for DAV, said in a release. “It’s the essence of ‘surprise and delight,’ bringing joy to all through the act of creating, finding and celebrating art while helping support culture and community in Denver’s neighborhoods.”

DAV said “art” hidden on Art Drop Day can be anything creative, like paintings, pottery and jewelry or even postcards, magnets and textile. The only limit is your imagination.

Anyone can follow the fun on social media using #ArtDropDay and #ArtDropDenver2024, or by joining the Art Drop Denver Facebook group. There is no deadline for people to sign up to join in the hunt.
