DENVER - In honor of World Spay Day, the Dumb Friends League and Foothills Animal Shelter are offering special deals on cat spay and neuter surgeries.
The Dumb Friends League is offering free cat spay and neuter surgeries through its mobile clinics on Tuesday.
The Dumb Friends League will have two mobile clinics available at Denver Animal Shelter, 1241 W. Bayaud Ave., on Tuesday. Check-in for the clinics will begin at 7:30 a.m. and will be first-come, first-served. The Dumb Friends League expects a large turnout and is encouraging people to arrive early to secure a spot in line.
In addition, Denver Animal Shelter will be providing all clinic attendees with a voucher for a free pet microchip identification implant, and all patrons will also receive a free gift bag from the Dumb Friends League.
World Spay Day is an international campaign that shines a spotlight on spaying and neutering to help save the lives of companion animals. The campaign promotes spay/neuter as a simple, humane and effective way to curb pet overpopulation and reduce the number of homeless pets in the United States and abroad. It began in 1995 and was called Spay Day USA.
“Our goal is to make spay and neuter clinics more accessible to more people,” Amanda Beals, outreach manager at the Dumb Friends League, said. “As a community, we’re actively working together to combat pet overpopulation, ultimately reducing the number of homeless pets that come into our shelters.”
The Dumb Friends League has two mobile clinics—the Meow Mobile and Lulu Mobile—that provide spay and neuter services at reduced fees, subsidized by Dumb Friends League donors, to pets in targeted communities within the Denver metro area six days a week. Each surgery is performed by a veterinarian licensed in the state of Colorado. Last year alone, the two Dumb Friends League mobile clinics spayed and neutered more than 8,500 pets.

The Foothills Animal Shelter is also recognizing World Spay Day by offering a special discount for cat spay and neuter surgeries. They have a goal to give the surgeries to at least 30 cats on World Spay Day.
The shelter says that during the month of February 44 dogs and 32 cats have been spayed or neutered in the community.
