FLORESVILLE, Texas — Our "Forgotten Friends" series showcases a dog or cat each week that has spent a lengthy time at an area shelter, just waiting for someone to notice them and bring them home to love.
This week's Forgotten Friend is a three-years-old Husky named Zelena who was saved from euthanasia at City of San Antonio Animal Care Services (ACS) a little over two years ago. The folks at Bee Pawsitive Husky Rescue tagged her for rescue just in time with the goal of finding her a loving home.
This gorgeous girl loves to play and definitely would prefer a home with an active family and a consistent schedule. She gets along fabulously with other dogs. She'd prefer a home with no children, cats or livestock to annoy her. So no chickens!
"These are energetic dogs who can't resist chasing small animals, so secure running room or large fenced-in yard is necessary," according to the American Kennel Club. "Siberian Huskies are also naturally clean, with very little doggy odor. Their innate friendliness render them indifferent watchdogs."
Shelter staff believe Zelena would do best if she was adopted by a couple who will provide stern, yet loving guidance for her. She is super strong and needs a man in her life that will take her for long walks and spoil her silly. She needs to be able to burn off energy, so a large, fenced-in yard is a must.
Huskies are predominantly winter dogs that thrive in cold weather thanks to their thick double coat that provides them with a cozy layer of protection from the elements.
Zelena is playful and loves her toys. She loves treats, especially peanut butter. Getting scratches and pets makes her a super happy dog.
She responds well to training that's given with PAWsitive reinforcement.
She was heartworm positive when she was first found as a stray a little over three years ago and taken to ACS. She was nursed back to good health by the folks at the shelter.

She is healthy, heartworm negative, current on all of her vaccinations and preventatives and has been spayed.
For whoever adopts Zelena, Lucy's Doggy Daycare & Spa will be lending a paw by offering them a free "Glow Up" Day at the Spa, which includes a massage therapy bath and Pawdicure. One of Lucy's most cherished core values is to continue Lucy’s legacy of giving back to pups in need, as Lucy herself was a rescue!
If you are interested in adopting Zelena, please fill out an application online, and if approved they will reach out to schedule an adoption consultation with you. The fee to adopt her is $250 and the shelter says they will transport out of state as well.
All of their adoptable animals are:
- Spayed/Neutered
