DENVER —
The Dumb Friends League (DFL) is offering 50% off adoption fees for all dogs 1 year old and older until Friday at both the Leslie A. Malone Center in Denver and the Buddy Center in Castle Rock.
Maia Brusseau, a spokesperson for DFL, said while the organization hopes people take advantage of the half-price dog adoption special, it’s important to remember that adopting a pet is a lifelong commitment.
Brusseau added that the holidays may also not be an ideal time to adopt a pet if people looking to adopt have hectic schedules.
“If you have extra time off from school or work and not a lot of activity in your home over the holidays, it could be a great time,” Brusseau said.
Brusseau also recommended that people looking to gift a pet for the holidays reconsider by gifting a gift basket with pet toys, treats or a gift certificate from the DFL shelter instead of choosing a pet for someone which can be a personal decision.
Adoption specials are put in place for a variety of reasons, and Brusseau said this particular special does not necessarily correspond with the holiday season.
“In this case, it is because we have animals that have been waiting a little longer than normal to find homes and would like to see those pets adopted so we can help even more homeless pets,” she said.
All pets available for adoption, including the dogs pictured, can be viewed at the Dumb Friends League Website.
Last month, the DFL celebrated a special milestone after 5,000 dogs arrived at the Buddy Shelter in Castle Rock from the shelter’s partner shelter in Oklahoma.
The partnership, which was established in June 2016, aims to help dogs that otherwise may have spent years waiting, find forever homes in Colorado.
All adoptions include spay/neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchip ID, a free office visit with a participating veterinarian and 30 days of free pet insurance, according to the DFL. The standard adoption screening process still applies during all reduced-fee promotions.
