COLORADO, USA — After six rounds of voting, "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" beat out 63 other movies to again be named the best Christmas movie by 9NEWS viewers.
The 5th annual 9NEWS Christmas Movie Bracket was launched in early December with 64 holiday movies.
"Christmas Vacation," "A Christmas Story," "Home Alone" and "Elf" were the final four movies in the bracket.
This is "Christmas Vacation's" fourth victory in five years in the 9NEWS Christmas Movie Bracket, which first launched in 2018.
"A Christmas Story" won the title in 2019.
If some scenes in "Christmas Vacation" did not look remotely like the Midwest, it's because they were shot in Breckenridge and other parts of Summit County.
According to GoBreck’s blog, filming took place in spring of 1989. You know the Christmas tree cutting scene? That happened near the Breckenridge Golf Course near Tiger Road. The subdivision nearby hadn’t actually been built yet.
The sledding scene was filmed on Peak 8 in Breckenridge and Summit High School in Frisco was converted into a set for the old home videos scene.
