McDonald's attempts to mimic Chick-fil-A's successes

Chick-fil-A, the Atlanta-based chicken chain that takes credit for inventing fast-food chicken sandwiches, is soaring, even while other fast-food chains are switching gears.
Dan Cathy took over as Chick-fil-A's CEO and chairman in November of 2013, after his father, S. Truett Cathy, retired.

McDonald's Corp. (NYSE: MCD) is making a move to becoming a "credible chicken player," according to internal McDonald’s documents reviewed by Bloomberg News, and that means flying toward the successes of Chick-fil-A Inc.

Bloomberg reports that the venerable Illinois-based burger colossus sent a letter to franchises about making a move out of nuggets territory and into more quality chicken -- under the project code name: "Better Chicken."

That effort by McDonald's includes selling meat that tastes like it’s pressure-fried, mimicking the technique used by Chick-fil-A to create a crispy coating and juicy interior, Bloomberg reports. The 78-year-old food company is also unveiling Southern-style sandwiches and tenders with similar buttermilk breading as Chick-fil-A's.
