Maybe your cup is half empty. Maybe you’re searching for a miracle. Maybe you just need some good news. I was in that place a few months ago when I clicked on an email in my inbox with the subject line “A spicy miracle.”

At first, I just glanced at it, assuming I would hit "delete." Then I read it all the way through, not once, but twice. I called the sender immediately.

To say this story is incredible, inspiring and beautiful would be an understatement. It's been a blessing to me and photojournalist Chris Hansen.

Here's a little breakdown of the people featured in my story: Tami and Clay Meers met as ski bums and moved to Steamboat Springs, where they married and started a family. They like to cook with spices and often made homemade hot sauce for family and friends. Eventually, they sold their sauce at farmer’s markets; which led to The Yampa Valley Sauce Company, a business that allows them to work from home together.

THE STORY | An accidental drowning makes for a powerful, life-changing experience for a Colorado couple

Chris Hansen and I feel so fortunate to have met Tami and Clay Meers and tell their story, which is built on love, faith, purpose and a series of medical miracles.

Dr. Beth Grieninger, emergency medicine physician from the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, told us this case was a gift to her, the most beautiful thing that happened to her in 15 years of practicing emergency medicine.

As the story unfolded, we found so many unforgettable moments, including the weather on the day Chris Hansen set up to meet with the family at their home.

Every time either one of us hear "Danny's Song" by Kenny Loggins, we will think of Clay and Tami Meers. We hope you do too.

Maybe, just maybe, it will fill up your cup.
