An anonymous thank you note left for State Troopers in Montrose, Colo.

KUSA - Sometimes a simple deed can have a much larger impact when done with kindness.

One small deed on Colorado's western slope touched a group of public servants for that very reason.

In the words of a Colorado State Trooper in Troop 5C, which is based in Montrose, "Recent events throughout our nation have cast a dark shadow over law enforcement."

The trooper continues, "Negative actions and bad decisions by few police officers has had a harmful effect on all of us blessed enough to put on a uniform."

That's why when this trooper and his team received thank you notes at their homes and on their patrol cars, they wanted to share the message with 9NEWS.

"As a state trooper with the Colorado State Patrol, I take great pride in being a pillar in my community and protecting the citizens who employ me. These people have trusted us with protecting them and enforcing the law, and today (April 28th, 2015), several of us received a much welcomed thank you at our homes," the trooper wrote.

The notes are now in the State Patrol's Montrose office, as a reminder of how a few simple, but heartfelt, words can impact a community.

The troopers e-mail ended with, "I just wanted to extend a heartfelt "thank you" to the residents of this great state who took it upon themselves to make us feel appreciated. We are honored to wear the uniform and serve Colorado."

The e-mail was signed, "Our Family Protecting Yours Since 1935," the Colorado State Patrol's motto.
