ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. — The Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office took to social media Sunday with an update on a baby goat they found locked in its owner's car weeks earlier.
The sheriff's office posted an update on Nibbles, a pet goat, after deputies responded to a call Saturday about animal cruelty in the 10200 block of East Peakview Avenue.
Deputies found Nibbles locked in its owner's car in a cage. Nibbles had no food or water, the post says, and a window was barely cracked open.
This wasn't the first time deputies had been called to check on Nibbles. Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office had already given the goat's owner a warning on March 7 for a similar situation.
This time, deputies took Nibbles and issued the owner a summons for animal cruelty, a Class 1 Misdemeanor, which can result in up to 364 days in jail and/or a $1,000 fine.
The sheriff's office says deputies brought Nibbles to the Dumb Friends League (DFL), a nonprofit animal shelter. While the post says DFL doesn't normally accept goats, but they made an exception for Nibbles.
The sheriff's office says the shelter will hold onto Nibbles for now, and it will do a complete medical check to make sure the Nibbles is healthy before it finds the baby goat a new home.
"We are so happy to report Nibbles is safe now and being cared for and never has to spend another night in a locked car!" the sheriff's office said.
