FIX THIS - There is a way to become more energy efficient. Switching out your regular thermostat to a smart programmable thermostat can save you hundreds of dollars each year. Because you can program when your heat turns on and off.

To start, turn your electricity off just to be safe.

Before you remove old thermostat plate, take a picture of the wires. If it looks more complicated than these wires, stop and call a professional for help.

Now add the new thermostat plate and attach screws to the wall.

Use the photo of the wire you took to make sure you feed the wires to the proper channels on the back of the plate, the same way they were before on your previous thermostat.

Secure the screws where the wires are attached.

Now, fully secure the back plate to the wall. Pop your programmable thermostat into place. Now program it, according to the instructions on the package.
