Spoiler alert: Colorado sports legend unmasked on 'The Masked Singer'

LOS ANGELES — Spoiler alert!

A Colorado sports icon was the first unmasked singer on the season premiere of "The Masked Singer."

Former Denver Broncos quarterback and general manager John Elway was revealed to be under the Leaf Sheep costume on the reality television series Wednesday night.

"The Masked Singer" singing television show has celebrities face off against one another while shrouded an elaborate costume, concealing his or her identity.

The NFL Hall of Famer was the first to be unmasked on the singing competition.

After he was unmasked, host Nick Cannon asked Elway why he decided to be on "The Masked Singer."

"That's a good question. I'm not sure," Elway said. "I was definitely not in my comfort zone doing this, but I'm in retirement now, I had the opportunity and took advantage of it." 

"It's great to be here. I had a great time," Elway said. "I think all the grandkids are going to be happy to see Papi jump out of the Leaf Sheep." 

"The Masked Singer" features panelists Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger and Robin Thicke.
