KUSA — The largest stage in music concert history on the highest-grossing music tour of all time has found a home.
The 164-foot monster stage known as "The Claw" will reside permanently at the Loveland Living Planet Aquarium, just outside Salt Lake City. The Claw will serve as a centerpiece at the aquarium's new nine-acre Science Learning Campus.
The Claw served as the stage for U2’s massive 360° Tour from 2009-2011 which included a stop at Denver's Mile High Stadium.
“Since the 360° Tour concluded in 2011, we’ve been vetting potential sites for the permanent placement of The Claw,” said Craig Evans, U2 Tour Director, in a news release. “It’s bittersweet to see it go, but we are pleased it’s going to enhance the mission and vision of Loveland Living Planet Aquarium as part of its expanded campus.”
The structure will be surrounded by science labs, high-tech classrooms, animal exhibits and community events that will be held at 7,000-seat and 350-seat outdoor venues.
U2’s iconic 'claw' stage to become cultural landmark
The aquarium is raising $25 million to create the entire Science Learning Campus with construction scheduled to begin this fall.
