Red Rocks means it when they say 'Rain or Shine'

There really is nothing better than a show at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison on a summer night.

As a "seasoned" Red Rocks attendee, I love a show no matter what the weather is.

But, for those whose first show at the venue happens to be a rainy show, you may not think so much.

Tuesday night's Dirty Heads show was not one for Red Rocks beginners.

Not many people (including myself) were prepared for the nearly three hours of steady rain that fell. Luckily, there were plenty of ponchos for purchase.

Red Rocks is a "rain or shine" venue, but if there is lightning nearby they have to go on a delay. Tuesday's delay lasted almost an hour-and-a-half.

Opening act Katastro was the only band to escape the impending rain. After they finished their set, the rain started.

The second band to play, The Expendables, played after the delay ended. The rain caused an issue with band member Ryan Demar's bass, so singer Geoff Weers, drummer Adam Patterson and guitarist Raul Bianchi did a couple songs a cappella. They eventually fixed the issue and went on with their set.

The band said on Facebook that Tuesday's show was one of the "wettest, weirdest and most fun shows" of their career, and poked fun at Katastro by accusing them of doing a "rain dance" during their set.

KONGOS started their set by saying they would play as long as their equipment would last. Luckily, it lasted the whole time. They played a few songs from their new album, "Egomaniac," and popular songs from their first, including "Come With Me Now" and "I Want to Know."

By the time Dirty Heads took the stage, the rain was down to a light drizzle. Despite the weather, it looked like most people stayed to see all the bands play.

Even though the bands shortened their sets by a few songs, it appears many people made the most of a very wet situation. It was rainy, but at least it didn't hail like it did at the Steely Dan show earlier this summer.
