KUSA – Jon Favreau is cooking up new foods in his new movie Chef. The Iron Man executive producer is starring as Carl Casper, a renowned chef who quits to start a food truck.
"I love the idea of the passionate chef character that is at odds with the critics, the restaurant owner and wanting to please his customers, but having a strong vision," Favreau said.
"It's a very romantic character."
To prepare for the role Favreau trained with Chef Roy Choi, one of the founders of food trucks in Los Angeles.
"I trained on his trucks and went to culinary school and worked in his kitchens on the hotline," Favreau said.
Production on Chef tried to keep the film from being wasteful. The foods made and displayed were edible, and the actors tried their best to keep everything sanitary. The foods were also given to the cast and crew to eat or take home.
Favreau looks favorably on his newest film. It's independently made so isn't something that will challenge the big Hollywood blockbusters. However the film does have the names of some Hollywood stars. Starring alongside Favreau is Scarlett Johansson, Dustin Hoffman and Robert Downey Jr.
Even with the limited release Favreau stands behind his work.
"I guarantee you this is a quality film that I love," Favreau said. "It's the thing I'm most proud of that I've ever done."
Chef is in theaters now, on a limited release.
