DENVER - The final tallies are in, and Denver's Comic Con is shattering records.

This year, 101,500 people attended the convention, making Denver's Comic Con among the largest in the nation.

In 2014, 86,500 people attended, and in 2013, 61,000 people went. Denver started hosting a Comic Con in 2012, with 27,700 in attendance.

With that growth, the veteran convention fans have seen the experience evolve into something to love.

"In the past, there has always been this thing about being a nerd or a geek and it wasn't very kindly looked upon," costumer Amy Panda said."Now it's very widely accepted. And they can go and meet other people who are into the same things they are into," she said.

This year's events also include meeting sci-fi/fantasy stars like Sean Astin from Lord of the Rings and the original Hulk, Lou Ferrigno.
