National Western Stock Show names parade Grand Marshal

9NEWS Chief Meteorologist Kathy Sabine, an avid equestrian, will lead the traditional drive of cattle, horses and wagons through the streets of downtown Denver.

DENVER — 9NEWS Chief Meteorologist Kathy Sabine will serve as Grand Marshal for the 2025 National Western Stock Show Kick-Off Parade in January.

Sabine will lead the traditional drive of cattle, horses and wagons through the streets of downtown Denver to kick off the 119th National Western Stock Show on Thursday, Jan. 9.

Sabine joined 9NEWS in 1993 and is the lead forecaster on the 3, 4, 5, 6, 9 and 10 p.m. newscasts Monday through Friday. She is an American Meteorological Society and National Weather Association seal-holder.

“Each January, downtown Denver transforms into a living celebration of our Western roots,” said National Western Stock Show President and CEO Paul Andrews. “We couldn’t be more excited to have Kathy Sabine, a true advocate for the Western way of life, leading this iconic event.”

Sabine developed a love of the outdoors and nature in her hometown of Truckee, a small mountain town in northern California near Lake Tahoe. She was very involved with horses and rodeo, and began college studying to be a veterinarian. She started work on her first degree in veterinary science, later switching her major to journalism. Her work on her second degree, in meteorology, began years later.

“The National Western Stock Show is an event that’s so dear to my heart, and I’m beyond excited to serve as the Grand Marshal for this year’s parade,” said Sabine. “Growing up with horses and a love for the outdoors, I can’t think of a more fitting way to kick off an event that celebrates everything I cherish about western culture and agriculture.”

Sabine is a longtime supporter of the Stock Show and host of the Junior Livestock Auction, where she highlights the importance of agricultural education and youth involvement.
