DENVER — Nearly 100 American bison are headed to Denver this week for the National Western Stock Show.
The National Bison Association will host a conference in Westminster with more than 550 bison stewards before its 44th annual Gold Trophy Show and Sale auction in Denver.
More than 20 bison producers from the United States and Canada will bring their top bison breeding stock to the annual auction at the National Western Stock Show, in which the animals are cared for in the bison pens on the National Western Center campus.
Bison will be judged on Thursday and Friday, culminating with a live animal auction at the National Western Livestock Auction Arena starting at 10 a.m. Saturday.
The public is invited to view the animals and meet the bison ranchers in the Stock Show Yards from noon to 4 p.m. Friday, when conference attendees and show bison owners will mingle, take in educational presentations, learn from the sale’s bison handlers with a Q&A in the bison pens, and enjoy bison sliders donated by Dakota Pure Bison.
National Western Stock Show and Rodeo
Part-rodeo, part-livestock show and part-fair, the National Western Stock Show brings hundreds of thousands of people to the National Western Complex in Denver each year for a celebration of Colorado's agricultural heritage.
Now in its 118th year, the National Western Stock Show has one of the world’s richest regular-season professional rodeos, one of the country’s largest horse shows and Colorado’s largest agricultural trade show. The Stock Show welcomes attendees from 48 states and 32 countries and will drive an estimated $171 million in economic impact to Colorado.
The National Western Stock Show runs through Sunday, Jan. 21.
