From golden retrievers and ballet to wedding and garden shows, there's no shortage of festivals, expos, performance art and sporting events this first weekend of February.

Goldens in Golden

GOLDEN — The annual "Goldens in Golden" event returns this weekend for a celebration of one of America's most popular dog breeds. Humans and their well-behaved golden retrievers are invited to gather in Golden from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The golden retriever gathering will feature a meet and greet at Parfet Park with pup treats, photo opportunities, pet vendors, and official merchandise. There will be three opportunities for a group photo near the "Welcome to Golden" arch. The official photos will be taken at 11 a.m., 11:30 a.m., and 12 p.m.

The weather forecast for Saturday calls for rain and snow showers. Event organizers advise attendees to dress accordingly and prepare your dog for wet and snowy conditions.

Jekyll & Hyde

DENVER — Colorado Ballet opens the U.S. premiere of the full-length ballet "Jekyll & Hyde" this weekend at Ellie Caulkin Opera House. Choreographed by Val Caniparol and inspired by the Robert Louis Stevenson novella, "Jekyll & Hyde" features music by Frédéric Chopin, Krzysztof Penderecki, Henryk Górecki, Wojciech Kilar and Henryk Wieniawski. Due to its mature content, "Jekyll & Hyde" is recommended for patrons ages 13 and older. The Victorian London-set ballet plays through Sunday, Feb. 11.

Chicago 

DENVER — The 25th anniversary tour of "Chicago" arrives in Colorado this week. A universal tale of fame, fortune, and all that jazz, "Chicago" has one show stopping song after another. The musical has been honored with six Tony Awards, two Olivier Awards, a Grammy Award and thousands of standing ovations. "Chicago" plays the Buell Theatre in Denver through Sunday, Feb. 4. DENVER — Denver native Tim Allen is back in the Mile High City. The "Home Improvement," "Toy Story," and "The Santa Clause" star will bring his comedy tour to Denver this weekend. "A Night of Comedy with Tim Allen" is scheduled at the Bellco Theatre at the Colorado Convention Center on Friday. Tickets are sold at AXS.com.

Portland Trail Blazers vs. Denver Nuggets

DENVER — The Denver Nuggets play not one, but two games against the Portland Trail Blazers in Denver this weekend. The Nuggets and Blazers tip off at 7 p.m. Friday at Ball Arena, and then again at 6:30 p.m. Sunday

Tri-State Swap Meet

DENVER — The 53rd annual Tri-State Swap Meet runs Saturday and Sunday at the National Western Complex in Denver. The Tri-State Swap Meet is the region's largest, indoor automotive swap meet featuring thousands of automotive related products, bumper to bumper and everything in between as well as tools, decals and memorabilia.

A Chocolate Affair

ARVADA — Olde Town Arvada will be a chocolate lovers' paradise during this weekend's A Chocolate Affair. The chocolate festival offers fun activities including a treasure hunt and chocolate samplings. Proceeds from the event — which runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday — will benefit Ralston House Child Advocacy Center.

Colorado Springs Home & Garden Show

COLORADO SPRINGS — Homeowners will come face-to-face with remodeling, landscaping and building experts at this weekend's Home & Garden Show in southwest Colorado Springs. The three-day festival will offer the latest in outdoor and indoor design trends with demonstrations, tutorials and advice from top professionals. The Colorado Springs Home & Landscape Expo takes place Friday to Sunday at the Norris-Penrose Event Center. A ticket discount is available at HomeShowCenter.com.

Estes Park Wedding Show

ESTES PARK — The Estes Park Wedding Association Bridal Show offers a wide array of wedding needs, including venues, caterers, florists, cake bakers, wedding planners, officiants, DJs, photographers and more. The show runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at The Pavilion at the Stanley. You can get your tickets ahead of time online.

Winter Walkabout Music Showcase

LONGMONT — The Winter Walkabout Music Showcase will feature more than 50 live performances by local musicians at more than 15 venues within walking distance of the Longmont Creative District. The festival runs all day Saturday from 2 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. One all-inclusive ticket gains ticketholders access to every performance throughout the day.

Day of Darks Beer Festival

DENVER — Wynkoop Brewing Company is bringing back its most popular beer festival, Day of Darks. This marks the 11th anniversary of the festival, which showcases the season’s best local dark beers. Participating breweries will be pouring winter seasonals, brown ales, stouts, sours and barley wines that are sure to leave guests feeling warm and fuzzy. Super Bowl 5K

DENVER — Lose some sweat before next weekend's big game at the Super Bowl 5K at Denver's Washington Park. The event features a 5K Run and Walk as well as a free kids 200-meter dash. The 5K gets underway at 9 a.m. Sunday. Race registration can be completed online.
