DENVER - Denver Police Officer John Adsit was critically injured while monitoring a student protest in early December 2014.

Adsit was released from the hospital in February.

The Adsit family attends Foundry Church in Castle Pines. The church has decided to hold a 5K to help support his recovery.

His wife, Michelle Adsit, thanked supporters.

"We know God works all things together for his glory and we know that he has a plan and a purpose for John and for our entire family. We look forward to the Rise and Run 5K on May 2. I will be there. Our family will be there. And I hope that John will be able to be there," Michelle Adsit said in the video.

Foundry Church says all are welcome. Registration is open now.

The run starts at 8 a.m. and lasts until noon. They expect at least 500 people to participate and thousands to come and watch.
