Guy Ritchie says his son, Rocco, is a "great teenager."
ET's Lauren Zima caught up with the director at the junket for his new movie, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, in New York City, on Sunday, where he opened up about his 16-year-old son with ex-wife Madonna, and his "unfiltered" review of the film.
"It's probably awkward for a teenager to tell you exactly what they think of their parents' movies, but yeah, I mean, he took all his mates to go see it back in the U.K. And I take their feedback quite seriously," Ritchie revealed. "But as I said, it must be a bit awkward for a 16-year-old to talk about."
"I can only put myself in his shoes," he explained. "It would be awkward for me to do it, but actually to be fair, he's very expressive about those sort of things, and he loves the movie."
"[He gave] positive [feedback]. The curious thing is about teenagers [is] they're not filtered. They don't think about the political consequences of saying they do like it or they don't like it," Ritchie added. "They're not thinking, 'Oh, you're actually the guy that's responsible for it,' so you do get a very unfiltered answer to whether they enjoyed it or not."
The 48-year-old director, who went through a custody battle with Madonna over Rocco last year, said that he's never had an "awkward teenage moment" with his son.
"In my experience, he's a great teenager," he said.
Ritchie, who also 11-year-old David with Madonna, and three young children with his current wife, Jacqui Ainsley, said that his family enjoyed coming to visit while he was filming King Arthur.
"They did come to set a lot. This is about the longest I've been away from wife in about eight years," he revealed before gushing about Ainsley.
"[I'm] very happy. I spend a lot of time thinking about my wife," he confessed. "It's a hand in a glove. We just don't argue, you know? She finishes my sentences, and understands what I'm thinking way before I'm thinking it. I think there are just some relationships that do work as efficiently as a hand in a glove. I'm lucky enough to be in that position."
The director also revealed that his family influenced his decision to direct his latest project, Disney's live-action Aladdin.
"I have five kids that also gave me very little choice in what I was going to make next," he admitted. "It's a tremendous army of muscle when you have five kids. They make up their mind that they're going to conspire to make me do something... Arguably the best movies that have been made in the past decade, have been kids movies anyway, so I feel very privileged to be going to that arena."
As for rumors that Will Smith will be taking on the role of Genie, Ritchie confirmed the actor is his "No. 1 choice."
"I have to tell you, I'd love it if that's the case, and from everything I understand, that's going swimmingly. He's certainly my No. 1 choice, and I hope that all comes together," he said. "I can't say yes, because you know how these things are. But from my understanding, someone's talking to someone, and it all seems to be going swimmingly."
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword hits theaters on May 12.
