Aurora Cultural Services is now offering a chance to join in the fun with this unique bagpipes class taught by expert Kent Kilgore, Wednesdays, Sept. 24 through Oct. 29 at the Aurora Central Library (14949 E. Alameda Pkwy).

The cost is $195 or $175 for residents. Class size is limited to 10 students, so don't delay in registering.

Bagpipes are played for battle tunes, marches, gatherings, salutes and laments. Kilgore has more than 15 years of experience playing the bagpipes and will teach students using a practice chanter. A chanter is a melody pipe that is blown into by the piper and is similar to other reed instruments. A chanter will be used by the piper for the rest of their piping days and is used to learn a tune before they play it on the bagpipes. A chanter is included in the class fee for students to keep and used throughout the class.

One of the most popular tunes played on the bagpipes, "Amazing Grace," is the student pipers' first tune is that they will learn by the end of the class.

For registration, go online at www.auroragov.org/recreation or call 303-344-1776.
