AEG Live told 9NEWS the demand for Adele's concert far exceeded the number of tickets available. Obtaining a ticket comes down to a game of chance.

Buyers waited until tickets went on sale, then, were randomly selected for the opportunity to buy them.   The AEG Live representative likened the process to letting consumers into a virtual room, where only a limited number of people can fit.

Tickets are appearing on the secondary market through companies like StubHub and Vivid Seats, for much more than the original ticket price.

Those companies don't actually buy tickets themselves -instead, they're a marketplace for ticket resale, similar to Ebay.
In some cases, their clients are professional re-sellers, or pre-screened individuals with legitimate tickets.
