If you're heading to Steamboat Springs this weekend to revel in the recent fresh powder, you'll also be treated to a long-running carnival. The 103rd Steamboat Winter Carnival is the oldest running Winter Carnival west of the Mississippi and features winter racing, ski jumping and a parade. The event name alone is a mouthful—and the food promises to be even more filling. Professional chefs and amateur cooks alike will help determine the best gumbo in Manitou Springs during the 23rd annual cook-off on Saturday morning. Admission to the event is free, with samples of the gumbo priced at two for a dollar. Stick around for a Mardi-Gras themed parade following the cook-off.

It's your last weekend to take in the impressive ice sculptures still standing from the International Snow Sculpture Championships in Breckenridge. What started out as 12-feet tall, 20-ton block of snow have been cleverly crafted into works of snow art. The sculptures will disappear under the darkness of night about 9 p.m. on Sunday.

The University of Northern Colorado's Performing Arts Series is kicking of its spring season with an adaptation of The Piano Lesson opening this weekend. The story follows Boy Willie, a sharecropper, who wants to sell the family piano to buy land where his ancestors worked as slaves. He's faced with opposition from his sister, who co-owns the piano and is sentimental about the heirloom that's been in the family for generations. Tickets range from $9 to $18.

Head to Comedy Works' downtown location at Larimer Square to catch one of five stand-up shows with comedian Charlie Murphy. Murphy is known for his role as a cast member and writer on Comedy Central's Chappelle's Show. He's also the older brother of former Saturday Night Live standout Eddie Murphy.
