Nathan Higgins is the Senior Executive Producer at 9NEWS in Denver, Colorado.
Nathan is a Midwest native (ope!) now enjoying life in Colorado.
He first joined the 9NEWS team in 2015 as a Producer, building weekday and weekend newscasts. Nathan took a short detour to St. Louis to work for his hometown TV station, then returned to Denver again in 2018. Today, he oversees the weekday team as the Dayside Executive Producer.
Nathan’s love for journalism started in high school. He helped write and edit his school’s newspaper before enrolling at the University of Missouri School of Journalism.
He got his start in radio and television news in Columbia, Missouri. While still a student at Mizzou, he covered state politics for KMOX radio and learned the TV ropes – editing, reporting, producing and more at KOMU-TV.
During his time in college, Nathan was fortunate enough to explore the world beyond his Midwest roots. He spent a semester in Buenos Aires where he studied Spanish and journalism. He traveled around the country learning about Argentina’s vast and diverse culture. After graduating college, he taught English to students in South Korea for a summer.
When he returned from South Korea, Nathan entered the broadcasting world full-time. At KOMU-TV in Columbia, Missouri he created a new, innovative newscast built around the idea of audience participation.
Next, he joined WBIR-TV in Knoxville, Tennessee where he produced the 10 p.m. show and, later, was promoted to oversee the evening team as the Executive Producer.
During his time in St. Louis, Nathan produced the 10 p.m. newscast at the station he grew up watching, KSDK-TV in St. Louis, Missouri.
Nathan is an award-winning producer with multiple Emmy awards, a regional Edward R. Murrow, and honors for best newscast from several organizations.
Nathan loves adventure. He’s frequently exploring Colorado with his wife and their dog, Stanley. When he’s not working, you can find him training for his next race, hiking a trail, setting up a campsite, biking up a mountain, skiing down the slopes, or enjoying a beer at one of Colorado’s many breweries.
When he’s not on a mountain somewhere, he’s probably cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals, Mizzou Tigers (MIZ!), Broncos or Nuggets.
