The heat returns for Saturday afternoon

The heat returns for Saturday afternoon, falling back into the lower 80s for Sunday.

DENVER — FORECAST BY: Meteorologist Laurann Robinson

FORECAST AT A GLANCE: The heat returns, briefly, Saturday afternoon.

Most of Colorado will be sunny, breezy and warm, Saturday afternoon, with Denver highs near 90 degrees. We can't rule out a pop-up thundershower across the plains, with larger storms expected across Nebraska/Kansas. But overall, those outdoor plains should be safe.

Sunday, a front will move in, dropping our temperatures by nearly 15 degrees, and bringing more widespread showers and storms. The northern plains should prepare for storms as early as 2 or 3 a.m., lasting through the majority of the morning. Across the front range, we can expect some spotty showers around breakfast, with larger storms by Happy Hour.

Sunny skies return to start the workweek, as temperatures start to rebound. Highs will climb into the lower 80s, Monday, then into the upper 80s, Tuesday.

Next Wednesday, prepare for more afternoon showers/storms, with highs staying in the upper 80s.

The heat returns toward the end of next week! We'll see above-average temperatures for the first time this month, with highs soaring into the middle 90s, Thursday and Friday.
