Hundreds of refugees taste their first Thanksgiving dinner in Denver

It's many of the guest's first experience with the holiday.

The African Community Center hosted its 12th Annual Refugee Thanksgiving Dinner on Monday evening.

Hundreds of people from around the world feasted on turkey and cranberry sauce at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Denver.

One man from Afghanistan who has only been in the states for three months says even though it's a little colder here, the kindness of the people made it a special evening.

"I see the people are very hospitable; they invited me to accompany us, and they gave us food!"

Last year, more than 1,000 people were served.

Since 2006, ACC has hosted a multicultural potluck dinner to celebrate Thanksgiving.
