Longmont holds on to upset No. 4 Skyline

In our 9Preps Game of the Week, the Longmont Trojans and the Skyline Falcons kicked off in a northern Colorado rivalry 4A football game on Friday night.

It's an old northern Colorado rivalry.

The Longmont Trojans had a tough task facing an undefeated Skyline Falcons team on their homecoming night Friday, Sept. 21.

Packed stands on both sides of the field and a heap of energy, the Falcons made their mark on the scoreboard in their first drive of the game. After a long run from senior running back Jeremy Hollingsworth, quarterback Chase Silva connected with Kyle West for the 7-0 lead.

West would have four receiving touchdowns on the night while, Hollingsworth would have one on the ground.

Despite Skyline's early lead and undefeated record, the Trojans were not intimidated. Longmont came out and scored three unanswered touchdowns on the ground and through the air. They would lead the Falcons 22-13 to end the first half.

To start the second, Skyline made it a two-point game after one of wide receiver West's third score of the game; however, again the Trojans came storming back with three scores of their own.

In a valiant effort to comeback, Skyline scored two more scores but fell short 42-34.

Longmont running back Drake Engelking finished with two rushing scores on the night and receiver Sage Yazzie two receiving scores.

Longmont hands Skyline their first loss of the season and moves to 3-1 in theirs.
