KUSA — What was originally described as a reported bear attack at Golden Gate Canyon State Park Wednesday afternoon is not believed to have actually happened, according to a news release from Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

A woman hiking with her dog told Gilpin County officials about the apparent attack on the popular Coyote Trail at around 1:20 p.m. This prompted a search of the park, but CPW said there was no physical evidence of active wildlife in the area.

According to the news release, after a subsequent interview with the woman at the hospital, wildlife officials determined there never was a bear attack. It’s not clear exactly what did happen or how the woman was injured.

The Coyote Trail has since been reopened, and Colorado Parks and Wildlife said it’s been deemed safe.

There have been no other reports of injuries to people or animals in the area.

Golden Gate Canyon State Park is located north of Black Hawk about an hour from Denver.
