Sedalia — A now-11-acre acre fire burning near Sedalia is about 20 percent contained, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
The fire broke out at about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, and has closed Highway 67 between Oak Valley Road to Rampart Range Road overnight -- and likely through Wednesday. Only residents living in the closure will be allowed in.
The fire also led to pre-evacuations for about 20 homes west of Pine Creek Road and east of Rainbow Creek Road. Those pre-evacuation notices have since been lifted, the sheriff's office said.
Investigators believe a downed power line sparked the fire. Windy conditions with gusts up to 60 miles per hour created challenges for firefighters.
At least two other fires were burning in the south metro area on Tuesday, but have since been contained.
Multiple fire agencies responded to a fire on North Foxtail Drive in Castle Rock where two homes were destroyed and multiple homes were damaged.
Another fire burned 3/4 of an acre in the Keene Ranch area of Douglas County.
A Red Flag warning is in effect until 8 p.m. due to strong winds and low humidity.
