Henderson teen killed after falling from moving vehicle

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — A 16-year-old Henderson boy was killed after he fell from a moving vehicle that was driven by his 17-year-old friend, according to the coroner.

Police on Friday night responded to a person who had fallen from the outside of a moving vehicle, according to a release from Commerce City PD.

Daniel Zavala was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital with critical injuries and later died.

Police said Zavala was riding on the outside of a vehicle driven by his 17-year-old friend when he fell. Drugs or alcohol are not suspected to be involved. 

Commerce City PD said, "riding on the outside of vehicles is exceptionally dangerous and unlawful."

Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the case. The case will be submitted to the district attorney's office to determine if any charges should be filed.
