Softball-sized embers from Denver fire found blocks away

Embers and ash from what the Denver Police Department referred to as a “major” construction fire near 18th Avenue and Emerson Street Wednesday afternoon drifted for miles.

9NEWS Reporter Jeremy Jojola found a big chunk of ash from the fire in Civic Center Park.

Kevin Massey, a 9NEWS executive producer, found a softball-sized chunk of ash on a surrounding street.

Another ember was spotted two blocks downwind of the blaze.

The smell of smoke lingered downtown as Denver firefighters worked to fully contain the blaze.
