Remembering the Pearl Harbor attack 77 years later

It started out as a normal Sunday, turned into a sneak attack by the Japanese, and ended with the U.S. getting into World War Two. Today, we remember the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941.

Friday marks the 77th Anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.

Many survivors, dignitaries, families and military members will take part in the annual Memorial Service held there every year.

It’s to remind us all of the 2,403 service members and civilians killed in the attack in 1941. More than 1,100 were wounded.

President Franklin Roosevelt proclaimed it “a date which will live in infamy."

The attack is what got the United States involved in World War II.

Two years ago, for the 75th Anniversary, with the help of the 9NEWS art department, we put together a story to explain how the attack happened.
