A tiny church in north Denver was forced to close its doors during the summer, but the former parishioners are fighting to have it reopened.
The Archdiocese says it won't reverse its decision - so now they're taking the case to the Vatican.
Spend five minutes with the parishioners of Our Lady of Visitation and you'll find corazón, comunidad and a heck of a will to fight for what they believe is right.
It's been eight months since the Archdiocese canceled the one mass at their church. During those same months, Sandi Garcia and the parishioners here have been looking for the reason why.
"We had been told there was a shortage of priests," Garcia said.
9NEWS reached out to the Archdiocese for a reason.
In an email they replied, the Mission location is not being closed. It will remain a property of Holy Trinity Parish. The only change is that the 10:45 a.m. mass will no longer be available at the mission.
The group is not happy with that response and have now filed an official complaint to the Vatican. It's kind of like a lawsuit in the church's court.
"Our complaint was 15 pages," Garcia said.
They hope that their corazón and comunidad will at least get them someone to listen. They're not expecting to hear anything from the Vatican yet because of the holiday season but we'll continue to keep you posted on their case.
