It was just days ago that we were talking about Denver Mayor Michael Hancock ditching a White House event. Today, we're reporting that he's president.

President of the National Conference of Democratic Mayors, that is.

The group announced Friday that members elected Hancock president, along with with several other new board members from Dayton, Ohio, Los Angeles, Austin, Texas, and more.

The statement stressed the importance of counteracting the Trump administration, city by city.

“Now more than ever, Democratic Mayors must be the ones to lead on the issues that affect all of us. We must fight for our core values and for those who cannot fight for themselves. We must continue to make critical investments in our future and lift up our collective voice to do what must be done to improve the lives of all Americans. And we must do it through bold, progressive ideas and concerted action."

Democratic National Committee Chair Tom Perez echoed that sentiment, and specifically said the immigration and global warming are key topics for mayors to address.
