Police are still searching for a lone gunman after two people were shot and killed on Central Michigan University's campus on Friday morning.
CMU sent an automated phone call to all students and faculty with a message saying police were responding to shots fired on the fourth floor of Campbell Hall around 9 a.m.
The suspect is James Eric Davis Jr. who is listed as a sophomore in CMU’s student directory. Police are describing him as a black man, approximately 19 years old, 5-foot-10 and 135 pounds.
The victims were identified by CMU Police as James Eric Davis Sr. and Diva Janeen Davis, the parents of Davis Jr. The suspect's father, Davis Sr. was a police officer with Bellwood Police Department in Illinois.
In a press conference, Andre Harvey the mayor of Bellwood, said "this has been one of the toughest days in the village of Bellwood in many years."
Harvey said the Davis Sr. grew in the village and had worked at the department for 20 years. "We are shocked that James Davis has been in a tragic incident of this nature," he said. "I'm just stunned that James Davis is not here anymore."
The Bellwood Police Chief Jiminez Allen also spoke at the press conference. "He will truly be missed," said Allen.
Earlier this afternoon, Illinois State Rep. Emanuel Chris Welch tweeted about the loss.

Gov. Rick Snyder went up to CMU on Friday afternoon and spoke at a news conference about the incident. He also tweeted throughout the day, saying he was in contact with police and spoke with students as they were getting reconnected with their families.
Around 3 p.m. police started ushering students and staff off campus. They advised people to wait for officers before leaving the building.
Students were directed to Comfort Inn in Mount Pleasant where they could meet up with their families. University staff was also their to provide support.
Central Michigan University said around 7:30 p.m. that the search is still ongoing. Police will continue to look for Davis Jr. through the night.
