Denver Police have identified the driver who allegedly caused a rollover crash on Interstate 70 Sunday morning that killed two people and injured three others.

Police arrested 39-year-old Ernie Crawley Jr. in connection to the wreck on I-70 eastbound at I-225.

Doug Schepman with the Denver Police Department says the crash happened shortly after 2:30 a.m. between a silver sedan and a dark-colored sedan.

Schepman says the silver sedan, driven by Crawley, was traveling in the left lane of traffic. Crawley's only passenger, police say, was a woman.

The dark sedan was traveling in the center lane with three people inside, two men and a woman.

Schepman says Crawley's car merged into the center lane, hitting the dark sedan and causing both vehicles to roll.

The man and woman inside the dark-colored sedan died at the scene, police said.

Everyone else was taken to a hospital. Their conditions have not yet been released.

Police say Crawley appeared impaired after the crash.

According to a probable cause statement, police say Crawley was slurring his speech, had bloodshot eyes, and his breath had a strong smell of alcohol.

The probable cause statement also says Crawley requested a blood test. Those results are still pending.

State records show Crawley has a criminal history in Colorado that includes various arrests for traffic violations and assault.

No charges have been filed at this time.
