A man was found dead on a hiking trail near the Boulder Flatirons on Thursday.

The man was found unconscious along a social hiking trail that branched off the Mesa Trail, about one mile above the Bluebell Shelter near Chautauqua Park around 11:30 a.m.

A hiker called 911 and began CPR on the 61-year-old man whose name hasn't been released. It's unknown how long the man's body was on the trail, but he was still warm when he was found.

Emergency personnel from the sheriff's office, Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks, Boulder Fire Department, Rocky Mountain Rescue and AMR Ambulance responded.

Attempts to revive the man were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at 12:20 p.m.

A release from the Boulder County Sheriff's Office said the man did not suffer any trauma to his body and there were no suspicious circumstances noted during the initial scene investigation.

Foul play is not suspected.

The man's name will be released by the Boulder County Coroner's Office once his family is notified.
