Democrat Jared Polis sports a comfortable pair of blue sneakers as he talks with voters at a Castle Rock coffee shop on Aug. 26, 2018. The governor-elect said he will throw a Blue Sneaker Ball on Jan. 8, 2019, to celebrate his inauguration.

Gov.-elect Jared Polis will be sworn in as Colorado's 43rd chief executive on Jan. 8 at the State Capitol, with a party scheduled for that evening that will include a concert, local fare and the chance to browse exhibits at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science.

The public is invited to attend the inauguration ceremony at 11 a.m. on the west steps of the Capitol. Tickets aren't required, and the viewing area is set to open at 9 a.m.

Tickets to the Blue Sneaker Ball — a nod to the incoming governor's favorite comfortable footwear — are available online for $75, with discounted $35 tickets available for students and military, the Colorado For All inaugural committee announced.

The festivities will feature a concert showcasing homegrown talent along with Colorado food and drink. A cash bar will be available for revelers with proper ID.

“The Blue Sneaker Ball theme continues to build on Jared’s focus of moving Colorado forward into the future and being a governor for everyone,” said Mara Sheldon, a spokesperson for the committee.
