KUSA — A 10-year-old girl from Windsor is the center of a sweet fundraiser at King Soopers benefiting Children’s Hospital Colorado.
Kaley Mcgill has skeletal dysplasia and dwarfism, and has spent a good amount of her young life in hospital rooms undergoing more than 60 surgeries and procedures.
“I always get scared when I go there,” Kaley told 9NEWS. “But then, once I’m actually done with surgery, and it’s just recovery…it’s actually fun!”

Kaley said she’s learned to love the hospital and its caring nurses and doctors.
“After a lot of surgeries, I was like whoa they’ve helped me a lot! I haven’t even helped them at all!”
A love for the show “Cupcake Wars” led her into the kitchen. As an ambassador for the hospital, she would bake cupcakes and pass them out at events.
Representatives for King Soopers were in one of those audiences.
“We were like how do we help with this,” King Soopers representative Adam Williamson said. “How can we be a part of selling these cupcakes for her?”
After some discussion, the grocery chain decided on a first-of-a-kind fundraiser. They would sell Kaley’s Kupcakes the first week of every month and donate the profits to the Children’s Hospital of Colorado.
“All 152 stores and their associates are behind this,” Williamson said. “They’re passionate about this. They all want to meet Kaley so bad, and they’re all inspired by her as well. So, we have almost 25,000 employees who are inspired by this little girl.”
Kaley designed the chocolate cupcake with pink frosting, and King Soopers mass produces them in their bakery warehouse. The money raised will go to a hospital program of Kaley’s choosing, and her goal is to collect $50,000 dollars or more.

One possible beneficiary, according to Kaley’s parents, is the hospital’s Child Life Department.
“People come and helps kids out after the surgeries,” Paul Mcgill told 9NEWS. “They’ll sit there and play games with them, so the money is really being used for good down there. We’re just trying to make it even better than we found it.”
While Kaley’s parent couldn’t be more proud, the hospital couldn’t be more excited and grateful.
“Our pediatric patients are fantastic examples of compassion,” Senior Manager of Corporate Partnerships for Children’s Hospital Colorado said. “They see firsthand the experience they’ve had here, and they’re able to show the community why this hospital is so important and why they should be giving back.”
The cupcakes are available the 1st through the 7th of every month for the rest of the year.
