The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs medical facility in Aurora is now 78 percent complete and is on-track for a previously announced 2018 completion.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was awarded a $571 million contract to finish work on the 1.2 million-square-foot medical center in October 2015 and took over management of the site in November. On Saturday, members of the management team took members of the media on a tour of the facility for the first time since April 2015.
Much has changed at the medical center since that tour, when the project was only 50 percent complete, despite having been under construction for years.
While some portions of the facility still look very much like a construction zone, with wires hanging from ceilings and exposed drywall and ductwork, other parts of the campus look nearly complete.
