Trio of 15-year-olds arrested in Thornton church vandalism

Three 15-year-old boys were arrested in connection to what police called a "malicious destruction of church property" in Thornton on Monday.

The teens, only identified as being from Thornton, allegedly caused damage in excess of $80,000. They all face charges of second-degree burglary and criminal mischief, both felonies according to Matt Barnes with the Thornton Police Department.

The vandalism happened at North Huron Christian Center/Destiny Outreach Ministries on Monday afternoon. A pastor for the church was alerted to the crime after the vandals triggered an alarm.

One of the church's pastors Renee Coventry told 9NEWS the pews may be destroyed and the guitars smashed, but Easter service will happen on Sunday.

“We plan on having church on Sundays. Just like always," Coventry said. "If we have to sit on the floor we will!"
