The suspect in a fatal hit-and-run crash on Interstate 70 on March 3 was formally charged with DUI vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of an accident on Wednesday, the District Attorney's Office said.

Ivan Zamarripa Castaneda, 26, is accused of driving drunk on the interstate before causing a deadly wreck in the eastbound lanes near N. Brighton Boulevard in Denver late Saturday night, according to the District Attorney's Office.

He was driving a pickup truck and collided with a semi-truck, killing the 57-year-old driver inside in a fiery wreck. He fled the scene and Denver Police found him in his home on W. Bayaud early the next day.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement placed a hold on him Tuesday, 9NEWS learned. The organization reportedly believes he's from Mexico. The city's policy of not cooperating with ICE unless the federal agency has a warrant is making it hard for ICE to take wanted suspects into custody.

Castaneda's second advisement is Friday morning at 9:30 a.m. At this time, his bond amount has not been announced. Look for updates to this story.
