WELD COUNTY — A man is in the Weld County jail after sheriff's deputies say he shot his 78-year-old grandfather during a family argument.
According to a release, deputies were called out to the 1700 block of 49th St, near Evans, just before 8 a.m. Thursday on a report that a woman's grandson had shot his grandfather.
Deputies learned there had been an argument between 29-year-old Andrew Ramon Salazar and another member of his immediate family. He then walked into his grandfather's room and grabbed a rifle, the sheriff's office says.
When his grandfather tried to stop him, the grandfather was shot in the abdomen. He was taken to the hospital, where he is stable.
Deputies found Salazar and took him into custody. He is being held on charges of first-degree assault, felony menacing, and third-degree assault.
