Brighton police seek driver who hit, killed man then left the scene

BRIGHTON — Investigators in Brighton are asking for help finding the driver of a vehicle who left the scene of a crash after a pedestrian was killed on Wednesday.

According to a release, 62-year-old Michael Steven Maes of Brighton was crossing Bridge St. near 6th Avenue in Brighton around 7:30 p.m. when he was struck by a light-colored sedan traveling in the westbound lanes.

Maes was transported to the hospital where he later died.

The driver of the vehicle that hit Maes left the scene of the crash without stopping to see if Maes was OK, the release said.

The vehicle is described as a light-colored (possibly white) four-door sedan with heavy damage to the front-end, hood and windshield.
