KUSA — The girlfriend of the man who police say escaped from Denver Health while in police custody in March was charged for helping him get away, and was aware of his plan to leave beforehand, according to an arrest affidavit.

Samantha Adams was charged with aiding escape back in June - four months after her boyfriend Mauricio Venzor-Gonzalez evaded police custody. Venzor-Gonzalez wasn't captured until late August.

According to her arrest affidavit, Adams told police that Venzor-Gonzalez sent her a letter from jail three weeks before his escape to tell her his plan. In the letter, Venzor-Gonzalez allegedly told Adams to park a car near 3rd and Fox, which is about a half mile from Denver Health.

In preparation for his escape, Adams says she bought a car, then had a friend register the car in her name. The night before his escape, the affidavit says Adams parked that car at 3rd and Fox and took a cab home. The next day at 6:30 a.m., she drove her other car to where the car she dropped off was. That's when she saw Venzor-Gonzalez run toward her car in a green colored jail uniform.

When he got in the car, Adams got out and walked to the other car at 3rd and Fox. Venzor-Gonzalez drove away. She then drove to 7-Eleven to buy an ice scraper because the windows had iced over on the car while it was parked overnight. That's where, police say, surveillance video was captured of her.

After that, she met Venzor-Gonzalez at the apartment of the friend who registered the car for Adams. He had parked the car near Cheesman Park because it was running poorly. She then gave him a ride to West Hampden and Federal Boulevard. That's where the affidavit ends.

Police do not say what happened with Venzor-Gonzalez between March and August when he was eventually captured at Creekside Place Apartments on Gale Boulevard in Thornton. The complex is 13 miles away from Denver Health.

Since his arrest, a judge set a $500,000 cash only-bond. If he makes bond, he'll have to wear an ankle monitor, according to the order.

Venzor-Gonzalez was being held for attempted murder after he allegedly shot at a police officer in November following a traffic stop. He got away but was found two days later in Aurora suffering from three gunshot wounds.

Before that, Venzor-Gonzalez was wanted in the suspected kidnapping Adams and their 1-year-old child.
