Man’s life saved twice by organ donations

Wednesday is National Organ Donor Day.
Conner Randall is a two-time organ recipient.

Lives are saved every day because of organ donors.

The Donor Alliance says right now 69 percent of Coloradans have registered to be organ and tissue donors.

Conner Randall is a two-time organ recipient who says the organization changed and saved his life.

At three months old, Randall was different than so many infants his own age.

“They listened to my heart and said something isn't right and that I should go to Children's,” said Randall.

He had to have heart transplant surgery, and it was through the Denver Alliance that he received a heart.

“That heart came from a little boy from Texas,” Randall said. “His family was able to give me the gift of life through their tragedy.”

He lived a normal childhood and was healthy until he got sick again at the age of 12.

“When I was 12-years-old I woke up one morning and I fainted,” he said.

He needed another transplant and the Donor Alliance put him back on the list. This time it took 13 long months for him to get the transplant.

“Looking back at it now, I got that strength from somewhere,” Randall said.

That strength helped him be a success, again.

“I felt fantastic, I could walk around, I had energy and I started growing – which I'm way taller than anyone in my family,” said Randall.

Almost 13-years later, he has a successful job speaking for the Colorado House as a bill reader, and even having an outside life performing with his friends in a rock band.

He still remembers what he's been through with a tattoo inked on his body.

“I have a 3 on my wrist on my left hand, and in a sense it reminds that I have three hearts and I am living for myself and two other people,” Randall said. “It's the ultimate gift that anyone can receive what I have gotten life three times from my mom and from two anonymous donors.”

The Donor Alliance says there are 2,500 people waiting for an organ, but luckily the organization says 69 percent of Coloradans are registered to be organ and tissue donors.

Connor says he’s never felt better, and besides getting a checkup every six months he rarely sees a doctor.
