Some family friendly events and things to do that are appropriate for kids

It can be tricky to find something to do that the entire family can enjoy. This list features events that are friendly for the 10 and under crowd.

Rockies Home Run 5k Sunday April 29 at 8 a.m. If 3.1 miles is too much for the little one, there's a free 1k non-competitive event that circles around warning track at Coors Field. Registration for this fun run can only be done in person on the day of the event.

Parents must obtain a bib number for each child and sign a waiver at the Registration tent located by Gate E

Visit the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. Sure you can visit it any weekend, but this Sunday, April 29 is one of the free days that are scattered throughout the year. While admission is free, you'd still have spring for the IMAX or Planetarium if you planned to visit either of those. The museum is open every day from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. The Denver Art Museum and History Colorado Center are also free on Sunday in celebration of the traditional Latin American culture during Día del Niño (Day of the Children).

Model Train show It's a little bit of a drive from the metro area, but if you're child loves trains then this might be the place for you. The event takes place both Saturday and Sunday at the Chapel Hills Mall Event Center. It's Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Train Expo Colorado ( TECO) will host operating model train layouts, vendors and historical presentations on The Denver and Rio Grande Railroad daily at 12:30 PM and 1:30 PM, hourly “how-to” clinics, a Seek & Find scavenger hunt for children of all ages, as well as door prizes for those in attendance.

Cost is $6 per person or $9 for a family of two or more.

Elitch Gardens opens for the season on Saturday. This year they're offering something cool for kids, the Pre-K pass. It’s FREE for kids three to five years old and includes unlimited visits to both the theme and water park for the entire 2018 season! While supplies last. All you have to do is register and then print the pass and bring it along with a birth certificate to the park to activate before June 24.

Open Car Days- Kitchen Cars at the Colorado Railroad Museum. Museum volunteers will open 3 rail cars, each normally closed to the public, Sundays throughout the month of April from 10:00AM-12:00PM and 1:00PM-3:00PM. On April 29, they're featuring kitchen cars.
